Florida Writers Association Names Robert N. Macomber
2020 FLORIDA WRITER OF THE YEAR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. February 1, 2020: St. Petersburg, Florida. The Florida Writers Association, Inc., (FWA) has announced that Robert N. Macomber of Pine Island, Florida, has been named 2020 Florida Writer of the Year. FWA confers this title annually to recognize outstanding talent in the industry. Past holders include Delilah Dawson, Heather Graham, and Steve Berry.

“It is with great pleasure that FWA bestows the exclusive title of 2020 Florida Writer of the Year on Robert N. Macomber. His literary acclaim, prolific writing, and communication skills make him the perfect honoree. FWA looks for an author based in Florida each year who exemplifies our motto of “Writers Helping Writers” while providing us with riveting reads. Macomber is just that person,” said Chrissy Jackson, FWA’s Director Emerita and Conference Director.

Macomber’s skillful writing of historical novels has earned him international acclaim and awards. His work depicts highlights of the U.S. Navy’s critical role in the expansion of America from a continental country in the mid-19th century into a global power in the early 20th century, using Peter Wake, USN, as his protagonist.

Macomber will be an active participant in the Florida Writers Conference and in two activities beforehand.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Macomber will host a Wakian Dinner of World Cuisines, an event inspired by Macomber’s protagonist. As a bonus, that evening will also be the Premier Book Launch Celebration of his 15th novel, Word of Honor. A signed hardback first edition copy will be presented to each guest. This event is open to the public. Details are on the Florida Writers Foundation website, floridawritersfoundation.net.

On Thursday, October 15, Macomber will conduct an all-day seminar sponsored by FWA’s sister organization, the Florida Writers Foundation (FWF). The seminar is titled Literary Arts and the Writing Craft. Register at floridawritersfoundation.net.

“We are thrilled to have Robert as our Foundation Celebrity Workshop Fundraiser Day speaker,” said Melody Dean Dimick, president of the Foundation. “He is an internationally recognized lecturer, history enthusiast, and avid researcher. This event is a must-attend for every storyteller.”

The Florida Writers Annual Conference runs from Thursday evening, October 15, through Sunday noon, October 18. Macomber will participate in Interview Sessions with our National Guest of Honor on Friday and Saturday mornings, each followed by a book signing.

“FWA is excited to add Robert to our faculty lineup for 2020,” said Chrissy Jackson, Conference Director. “Our members are fortunate that he’ll be sharing his storytelling secrets during his workshops and throughout the weekend.”

All events will be at the Hilton Orlando / Altamonte Springs.
